Preparing for your newborn session.

My aim as your newborn photographer is to create a relaxed, slow‑paced, cozy atmosphere in your home. This prep guide will help you feel ready and confident, so the session flows smoothly and is as hassle‑free as possible.

Before the session

Here are some great ways to help bub be relaxed and ready before I arrive:

  • Feed baby 2–3 hours before the session.

  • After that feed, try to keep baby gently awake (ideas: a warm bath, a gentle massage, tickling toes, or talking softly).

  • Avoid using a pacifier and don’t wrap baby up too tight. Keep baby in just a nappy and loosely wrapped until I arrive.

  • Once I arrive, feed and burp baby so they’re sleepy and settled for the session.

  • Set the room temperature to around 26°C.

  • Lay out siblings’ clothes the night before to make getting ready easier.

  • Make sure everyone has snacks and drinks on hand so tummies stay full and moods stay calm.

Setting up

Once I arrive I’ll set up the posing bean bag and lighting while you feed. When baby’s ready, I’ll wrap and pose them on the bean bag. Most mothers use this time to get themselves ready. I usually need around 45 minutes to settle, pose and photograph baby, so you’ll have time to relax and take a moment for yourself. It’s important this time stays quiet and relaxed. Once I’ve finished the posed newborn photos, we’ll gather everyone for family portraits.
