True tone editing- forever timeless.
Let’s be honest—there’s something undeniably beautiful about those warm, sepia tones. They feel polished, perfect, and very “on trend.” But my prediction is that were going to be seeing more true tone edits, and less heavily filtered ones.
When every photo is heavily filtered to fit a certain palette—whether it’s all golden warmth or muted browns—you risk losing the natural tones of your family’s skin, your environment, and even the light that was really there. While that might not seem important now, over time, it can feel less authentic and more like a fad.
Why True-to-Tone Will Always Be Timeless
A more natural, true-to-tone edit allows the real colours of your family and your environment to shine through. It reflects how your life actually looked in that moment—not how a preset made it look. Don’t get me wrong.. theres nothing wrong with presets, they are a crucial part of efficient editing, but trying to have your work look just like everyone else can be an easy trap to fall into.
Think about flipping through old photo albums from your childhood. The images that make you stop and feel something—the ones that bring tears or laughter—are rarely about the styling or the color grading. They’re about the realness: a sibling’s smile, your mum’s expression, the way your dad held your hand.
This is why I focus on lifestyle photography with timeless editing—capturing emotion over perfection, connection over poses, and authenticity over trends. It’s not about chasing the “look of the moment,” but about creating images that will still move you 10, 20, or 50 years from now.
What Matters Most: Emotion, Connection, Story
Photography is about more than aesthetics—it’s about memory. It’s about remembering how your toddler scrunched up their face when they laughed, how your partner looked at you when you weren’t paying attention, or the way your newborn curled into your chest. These are the moments that matter most. And they don’t need to be filtered to feel meaningful.
So if you’re looking for family photos that you’ll still love when Instagram has long moved on from terracotta tones and pampas grass, choose storytelling. Choose natural light. Choose real emotion. Because trends fade, but your story doesn’t.
